Thursday
noon The day before our much-anticipated glamping trip to Big Bear, Maya, our lovable rescue pittie, can’t help but pick up on the buzz of excitement. We make a stop at the pet store to find the perfect jacket to keep her snug in the chilly November air. After trying on several options, Maya decides on a cozy blue jacket that fits her just right.
3 P.M. Time to pack for our weekend escape! We gather everything Maya might need to feel comfortable — her favorite food, matching pajamas with her mama, extra blankets, and, of course, her brand-new jacket. Though Maya has only been with us for a few months, we’re determined to make this trip special for her. After all, she’s been through a lot, surviving in the woods before we adopted her. She deserves this luxurious getaway more than anyone.
Friday
10 A.M. We hit the road bright and early, leaving Los Angeles behind as we drove up to Big Bear. Maya is thrilled — she’s always loved car rides. Even on the day we brought her home, she confidently hopped into the car as if she had always been a part of our family.
1 P.M. Upon arrival, we spend the next few hours exploring the campsite. Maya’s eyes widen as she takes in the majestic mountains, the towering trees, and the plethora of new scents. Our little cabin is perfect, with a big bed and large windows so Maya can soak up the view even from inside. The company that manages the cabin has gone the extra mile, leaving treats and water bowls out for Maya, making her feel right at home.
5 P.M. As the sun dips below the horizon and the air cools, we gather around a campfire. Maya finds her spot near the warmth, her new jacket keeping her extra cozy as she basks in the heat.
10 P.M. Normally, Maya sleeps in her bed, but this tiny cabin doesn’t have room for a separate dog bed. So, much to her delight, Maya snuggles up with us in the big, comfy bed, sharing the warmth and comfort.
Saturday
10 A.M. Today’s adventure is a hiking trip, Maya’s very first. She can hardly contain her excitement as we hit the trail, darting back and forth, sniffing every intriguing scent. Snow is another first for Maya, and she dives right into it, her joy contagious.
1 P.M. After our hike, we head into town for a well-deserved treat. Maya greets every passerby, wagging her tail at the people and dogs alike. At a cozy coffee shop, we introduce Maya to her very first cappuccino. She devours it with delight, and now, every time she sees someone with a coffee cup, she thinks it’s another treat for her.
5 P.M We return to our campfire routine, soaking in the last night of our glamping adventure. The trip has flown by, and we’re not quite ready to say goodbye to this little slice of paradise.
10 P.M. Back in our big bed for the final night under the stars, Maya finds her favorite spot nestled between us, as cozy as can be.
Sunday
11 A.M. It’s hard to believe the weekend is already over. We pack up our things, making sure to give Maya one last chance to sniff around and say goodbye to Big Bear.
5 P.M. As we arrive home, Maya greets us with a flurry of kisses, torn between missing the adventure and being happy to return to familiar surroundings.
10 P.M. Our first night back home, Maya curls up in bed with us, just as she did on our trip. Ever since that weekend, she’s made it clear that this is her new favorite spot, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
